So I raised the front end on my truck and did the wiggle test on the tires to see if they move, and sure enough the front pass. tire had about an 1/2" wiggle in and out. So I tore apart the hub assembly and was down to just the knuckle and the axel.

So after all that what I need to know is how much play should there be when you grab the end of the axel move it up and down?

any help would be great as I am needing to get my truck back up and running and i dont want to put the hub assembly back together and find that i really needed somthing else as well.

I think you are referring to the wheel bearings? If so there should be almost no play. You should not be able to move it up or down more than .010 inch. What do you drive. Fill out your signature so we can help you better. Go to the TOP BLUE LINE and click oon USER CP. When you are in the USER CP click on Edit Signature and fill it out with the year and engine of your truck. This will help us by not having to ask you for this information every time you ask a question. It will save me a &^%* load of typing.

worry more about if the joint behind there is loose..
you're getting that up/down because the vacuum seal is like a Wear-Ever seal on a bulldozer, rather than a solid disc..

If your talking about the universal joint....sorry cant remember what its called at the moment, any ways no its tight and no play. but if i grabb the end of the axel where the 4x4 hub covers and push down and move it side to side it moves inside the steering knuckle.

The axle shaft floats in the axle housing. It sits in the ring grear assy and the hub bushing. Not supported along the way. You should be able to move it around when it is sitting still.
