i gotta chime in here, would love a larger tank...dont need it but it
would be nice...i think w/ all the searching and looking ive done id
go w/ a narrow (9inches deep, full width & doesnt exceed height of
the bed)...36 gallon or if i wanted to give up a little more depth you can
go 54+

w/ an in bed tank you can take it to the next truck...no matter the brand.

tractor supply, northern tool, aero tanks and many many more make 'em
and theyre about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of the transfer flow.

If you want to chance it...you can fill the top tank in your bed with off-road fuel for even more savings...

heres some more that ive discovered and shared w/ friends of mine who
are in need of good range....

--------------
steal tanks will rust...'specially if you dont keep it full !
steal may be cheaper but the BEST way to go is aluminum.
--------------

Personally i think the KSHMarine guys might have the BEST
priced tank ive seen...theyre ALL alum. and they have options
to make any of their tanks an AUX tank (which means it becomes
the tank in use at the flip of a dash mounted switch)

their aux tanks make use of the factory fuel gauge..so when
you flip the switch you know how much fuel is in the "aux"
tank (by looking at the factory in dash fuel gauge).

the other OPTION (50 or so bucks cheaper) is to have the in bed
tank set up as a TRANSFER tank...some transfer set ups use a
gravity feed (they slowly fill via a splice into the filler neck...and
they have a float valve/ball that shuts off the flow from
the transfer/inbed tank when the MAIN/OE tank is full.

the KSHMarine guys sell a set up for PUMPING the fuel from the
inbed tank to the OE/Main...

Home Page

------------------------------------

you can have an AUX tank or a Transfer tank in the
bed...aux tanks are switch-able, where you burn from
one tank and then the other.

aux tanks are integrated either to the factory fuel
gauge or have their own gauge.

transfer tanks TYPICALLY pump the contents into the
main/OE tank and by PUMP i mean either by electrically
controlled pump or by gravity.

transfer flow is the cats ass...they make aux tanks (for in
the bed etc) and they make DIRECT replacement tanks...that
are larger than the OE tanks....big bucks but they are
probably the best:

Fuel Tanks and Fillneck Kits from Transfer Flow, Inc.

aero tanks makes replacement and AUX tanks:
AeroTanks-we specialize in auxiliary fuel tanks.

also...
Aluminum Tank & Truck Accessories Inc. (aint cheap The AL40RU with the diesel
installation kit STARTS at $665...but still close to 1/2 the cost of a transfer
flow brand)

dont forget tractor supply Tractor Supply Company
and
northern tool & equipment Pressure Washers, Portable Generators, Mowers, Lawn + Garden | Northern Tool + Equipment
