I'm going on a trip this next weekend. Driving the truck today for it's first long trip since adding gauges(100+ miles) unloaded thru Milwaukee, I noticed the transmission temps start to climb putzing thru 10 miles of stoplights and construction. After it got above 180, I stopped for lunch. I noticed a puddle (size of my palm) under the tranny. I also noticed this while camping a few weekends ago. I got lost and was towing the camper around a lake at about 25 mph. It seems to me that if I am going slower than highway speed, the tranny cooler isn't getting enough air. I have read posts on the early SD's tranny coolers not being to good. The location of the cooler behind the intercooler and AC condencer leaves a little to be desired as far as cool air is concerned. I would like to add an AUX cooler in front of the condenser. Will the kits you can buy at the local AutoZone suffice? I installed on on my last tow vehicle and it worked great, it was a 25,000 GVWR cooler. Reading a few posts on guy swapping in a 6.0 cooler there wa some discussion about 1/2" to 3/8" adaptors, are the cooler lines really that large? I'm used to the old 5/16" double flared fittings on the chevy vehicles. Will a kit like this work on a Ford. I would rather not find out 4 hours from home that the tranny fluid is cooked (looks and smells fine now though) Thanks for the input!
