Did any of you other amateur operators get involved in the ARRL Field day last week?
I now belong to the Trinity Valley Amateur Radio Club and we set up at Tanger Outlet Mall in Terrell.
We set up about noon last saturday and some of them stayed until noon on Sunday. ( I did not make the entire time)
We made ever 200 contacts. I remember seeing Mexico, Canada, and all over the U.S.
I got a New Zelander but could not make him hear me, so it did not count.
This is my first field day, and it was very informative. I will have to admit though, I am not as hooked as some of the die hards. I am not going to stay up 24 hours just to talk on the radio.
In addition, I will get my General's when they do away with CW for that class. I can see absolutely no reason to require CW for any class license. If you want to learn it, it should be an option, but it shouild not be required.
During the Field Day, one of the Ham's used it to make contact with a couple of persons, but it was a novelty situation. In my short exposure to amateur radio, I have not seen a case when it was needed to make a communication.
