I have stock 03 aluminum rims (look like 8 inch) and I am debating on 305/70’s. Being a 2WD (F-250; 2000 Crew/short) truck, I have no interest in raising the front end. Matter of fact, I will be dropping the rear about 3 inches for a level ride height. This is a highway truck!

My question to the forum;

* Has anyone used a 305 or 315 70 (NOT 75) on a stock Ford rim with any problems?

* What pressure works good and any odd tire wear issues?

* Can I expect any handling differences going from the razer blades (235's) to a fatter tire?

I value your input -

Garydee :thanks

Welcome to SDD garydee. I am sorry but I have no idea about your tire question. Someone will come along with an answer.

Welcome to the site. Im not sure about your tire question, but since the truck is a highway truck, wouldn't you want the 235's on it for better economy? Or is there other reasons for a change.

Garydee, A 305/70 should be fine on an 8" inch rim. I have had 315/75's (35"x12.5") on my stock steel wheels without problems. (7.5" wheels)
I ran 55 psi in the front and 45 psi in the rear and I had no problems with uneven tire wear.
The 305's will give a much better ride and corner alot better that the stock 235's. The 305's also seem to absorb alot more of the little bumps that you feel with the 235's.

Are you sure you have enough clearance to run 305's? I know that they fit fine on a stock 4x4 but unsure about fitment on a stock 2wd.

I have ran 315's on stock 7" rims with no problems and many other have too.

You do have to watch the pressure, but that is on any tire ;)

According to the TIRE SIZE CALCULATER, I compared the 305/70 to the 285/75 I have on my truck. All the dimensions came out almost virtually identical between the two tires.

Compared to the 265/75 that came on my truck from the factory, I found that the 285/75's look better in the wheel wells, the 265's I always felt looked kinda small on the truck. The handling is better in crosswinds and the speedometer now reads dead on, compared to reading 2mph higher than actual with the 265's. However, the odometer while accurate with the 265's now reads about 3% less than real world with the 285's. I have found that fuel mileage with the 285's is about .5mpg less with the bigger tires.

I used to have the 305 good year A/T's on my 2000 2wd. They rubbed the radius arms but only at full lock. The area they rub is smooth and I had no issues. I ran two sets of those tires for probably 30K.

just be careful of tire manufacturers, they sometimes have the same #'s but the actual size of the tires are different:sweet

my girlfriends dad has 305's on his 2WD, but it may be different since his is a 95'. i had to modify his front bumper slightly but nothing big that my plasma torch couldn't take care of. could have even done it with a sawzall i guess. i'm not sure how well the 305's fit on your year model. i will ask my girlfriend's brother b/c i think he has 305's on his and it's a 2000 2WD.
