Alternator Rebuild Kits??

Is anyone aware of an available alternator rebuild kit?

I'm not having any issues yet, but I've got 290,000+ miles. I'm thinking more along the lines of preventive maintenance at this point. It might be a good thing to refresh it before it evenually goes bad. I'm also wondering the cost effectiveness of such a project vs just getting a new one.

I have not heard of any rebuild kits for Super Duty Diesels. I would get a new one, after 290,000 your truck deserves a new one.

The days of alternator rebuild kits are gone..... If you really wanted to try to help it live longer there should still be a brush holder and brush kit available from most auto parts stores. Or, you could check with a rebuilder, they may sell you parts. Its probly best to run it til it is dead and replace it though. Sometimes something with that many trips around the block will become problematic once you open it up.

Alternator Rebuild

Did mine, my fathers, my mothers, etc. Best to replace but the cost of the brush kit is a fraction of a new or reman unit. Be sure to check the windings, regulator and bearings too, my 01 needed bearings along with the brush/spring kit. Try them if your local parts stores are out of stock. ---->

I have gone through 2 alternators so far. Did not want to replace with the "stock" one again and found this one by accident also. I recently put the heavy duty 200 amp model in mine. Even with all the emergency equipment I have running, the needle on my volt guage does not move. I have been real pleased with it so far.

When Rach's goes, I will be replacing hers with one as well. (Probably not such a high output, since she wont let me touch hers with any fun stuff.)

I agree...although not sure that the added 'heavy duty' rectifier justifies the difference in price! I really do like the idea of improved lower rpm charge capability.

Would the smaller diameter pully have anything to do with the improved lower RPM output ?
