I am looking for a air intake upgrade for my 7.3PSD I have already purchased a stinger plus kit from banks but they do not offer an upgraded intake system, just a high flow filter. All info will be highly appreciated and thanks alot in advance, later.

For the 7.3 the best bet is the off-road filter ford offers, I can't remember what they call it, there are folks here running it, they will be by to tell you what it's called. All the oiled cloth filters let more air through because they don't filter as much. Don't run dirt through your PSD, it doesn't like it....

I think the Ford AIS is what you're thinking of.

I've tried the open element style of intake sometimes refered to as a Tymar. The issue I had with it was when towing a moderate or heavier trailers, the open element filter was sucking in heated underhood air which caused the engine to run warmer than needed.

The Ford AIS takes in cooler outside air from the grill area. The Zoodad mod works quite well with the AIS. When I installed my AIS, I found the engine to run cooler, but when I romped on it, the restriction indicator would get sucked partially down. I thought that a problem between the filter and turbo was unlikely and surmissed that the problem was ahead of the filter. I got the Foam Fender Sleeve which draws additional air through an air intake passage in the fender. I haven't got the restriction indicator to budge since.

That would be the one, I was stuck on the AIC acronym, but I knew that wasn't it. Thanks.

Farmers out here love that filter, it does real well on all the dirt roads and in the fields.

how does this one do for power, and would it hurt to replace the intake tube from the box to the turbo with a bigger one made of a solid pipe?

If you are considering replacing the tube as well, why not just do the tymar. It's quick, easy, and cheap. The filter element itself for the ais system is 75.00 a piece out here.
I did the tymar for about half that including the pipe and hose clamps, the filter element runs about 35.00 at my local napa. Check the wiki at the top right of the home page for detailed instructions. IMO
