Howdy All,
In the quest for better mpg I have been reading and came across an article this weekend that got the wheels turning. I am aware that the higher a vehicle is off of the ground the more the mileage decreases. So............if I fabricated an air dam out of (????) would it help or just look stupid? If I did attempt this I would want it to be relatively easy to take off as I wouldn't want it on for city driving (no use here).
My truck has stock tires on it, 2WD, and no lift, but as y'all know these trucks have decent ground clearence. What are y'alls thoughts on this, pros and cons.
Thanks,
Craig

And my God is it HOT here (Dallas)!!!!!!

i believe they do sell one that allowes for more air to come into the engine bay but it wouldnt be easily removeable, nor cost effective to save the mile or 2 per tank... i think you might have more luck (and would work better) if you could find a way to get more air to your airbox or cleaner... either path if you do choose to take one let us know how it comes out....

I saw where one fella ran a 4" (I think) flexible dryer vent from the front bumper up to his intake on this site or the evil diesel place. We are going to Destin Fl. next week for a wedding and I wanted to make a list of inexpensive mods and see how they worked compared to the things that I did for our Ks. trip. I got 20mpg (19.9 actual) when we drove to Ks. earlier this month. We don't take the interstate, instead we like taking the back roads thru country towns and stuff. Takes a little longer but more relaxing. This won't be the case when we go to Fl next week, Interstate all of the way (time concerns).

Yeah there was a LONG thread a while ago on TDS that went on for many pages about this, dropped 100 degrees or so, who knows what kind of conditions the truck was in but its cheap and can only help, just make sure that it isnt in direct shot of rain or that water can get out somewhere and not dumped into your filter :sweet

I have a air-dam off a Bronco on mine and I guess I just didn't notice any mileage improvement when I installed it. The Broncos and half tons had them but I think I heard the Diesels didn't due to cooling issues.
