I think it takes a reprogram of the GEM module (at least on the older trucks). And from what I remember few if any would actually do it. You would first need to get the Federal paperwork to allow you to retrofit a cut-off switch since you have rear seats. Too many hoops for me. I'd like the option, but oh well.

There was a whole thread on this a year or two (or more) ago over at TDS. I think one person actually found someone intelligent enough at a dealership to do the reprogramming. Seems like the offiicial work around is an aftermarket switch add on. I seem to recall that Techs were either unable or unwilling to do the programming stuff.:dunno

To be legal, you need:

NTSB paperwork allowing the switch.
The switch
Reprogramming of your PCM.

Options!
Get switch from wrecked truck.
Get PCM from same wrecked truck. It will already be programmed for the Airbag switch!
Get a Jody Tipton chip to reprogram your power/shift points if the new PCM is different from your old PCM.

What happens if you install the switch without the programming, is the computer detects a FAULT and disables the ENTIRE airbag system.
