I found a good deal on an '08 tailgate ($550 shipped). It has a step and built in camera. Does anyone know where I would get a monitor that would work? I'll probably need some wiring too.

i canabalized a $80 costco b/u camera for the monitor. 2.5" LCD. takes standard RCA in. it was cheaper than fleabay.

So I was thinking, buy a wireless kit. Find a switch (radio shack) so that you can go between the tailgate and the wireless on the trailer. Does anyone know if this is impossible?

the camera is turned on by tapping the reverse light for power.
the costco one i got was wireless. the wireless signal is crappy and its on bluetooth frequency. the picture was REALLY grainy. once i converted the camera to wired, it was crystal clear.
i think if you are trying to get the image from the rear o the trailer, its a stretch for those little cameras.
but if you are electrically/radio savvy, i can not see why you could not boost the antenna circuit.

I got the tailgate stripped down for paint today. There are 5 wires coming out of the camera. Does anyone know which one does what?
