Hey every one , I'm very new to the diesel truck world & recently bought a 1997 f250 7.3L powerstroke with 350000kms. The truck seems to run great & while driving yesterday I noticed a new sound coming from the front driverside.I thought it might be the wheel but it only happens at lower rpms & when I give it gas it goes away aswell when I press the clutch in it goes away too it almost sounds like a rubbing or grinding .its kida hard to tell with the moterbeing so loud . Can anyone comment on what this might be ? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Dual mass flywheel is the likely culprit or that your trans is low on fluid and the input bearing is not getting enough oil.

See this thread for another DMFW problem

Thanx guys , I really appreciate the help . If it was the throw out bering , would I not be able to hear the noise if the truck was in nutral with the clutch(pedal) relesed ? One other question , is the trans the same as it would be if it were a gas moter or are ther diffrent ? Thanx again to every one

Ok , I read the "this" thread that bjs suggested . My problem is not when I'm sittin at idle & my truck dosnt shudder. My problem is constant & when I start to hear the noise it starts quoet & gets loud quickly . While in neutral it happens when I bring the rpm up to between 1000-2000 rpm & the same while driving . If I accelerate the noise will go away untill I level out then it comes back . The noise is difficult to explain, its almost like a rubbing sound mixed with a helicopter ??? If that makes sence . I do not feel it in the truck . While in neutral if I bring the rpm up to say 1500 rpm , when the noise starts up it drops the rpm down to about 1100 rpm ? Thanx so much for any help

goin on what you have said that you can duplicate it when you are sitting in neutral (presumably with clutch engaged) that makes it more than likely the input shaft bearing that is going bad or at a minimum a bearing somewhere in the transmission.

If you have a 4wd you can put the T-case in neutral and see about recreating the noise to eliminate possible problems further back in the driveline. Then isolate the trans/t-case together by keeping the clutch engaged (trans not turning) and running the RPM up to see if it keeps making noise.

Any mods that I am aware of are 33s for rubber & a 4"exhaust strait from the motor back . Bjs , just so I'm clear on what u ment "clutch engaged" u mean clutch petal out , foot off the petal ? They shut down the work site here in alberta canada due to the -35 degree celcius temp. so I will try to get a mechanic to take it for a spin & post what he said I will also try bjs's suggestion aswell first . Thanx every one for all ur help & input , I really appreciate it
