The first I have is, is there anyway to check and see if my torque converter is going out? My truck has a rattle coming form the torque converter, so I think it is going out. As far as I know it is the factory converter and I have 173000 miles on the truck. My dads truck which is very close to mine, had the same kind of rattle and a new torque converter fixed it. The next thing is I have an oil change coming up and was wondering what kind weight oil you all used or would reccommend. Thanks

convertor rattle was very common. nut plates i beleive broke the welds. the bolts stay in a while or may never fall out. its just NOISY

CHANGE IT

as for oil I aint going to touch it
i will say i have always used in my 7.3 turbos and now the 6.o is rotella 15-40
run by pass filtration and go 10k on oil
173k you still got lots of miles left

That was one issue that kept us from getting a early 99 SuperDuty was the torque converter rattle issue then Ford fixed it in the 99.5 model which we picked up:sweet

Every early 99 Superduty with the Automatic back then I knew of had a noisy TQ.

that rattling your hearing int he 6.0 is your teeth chatterying from excitment.
if i get on it, say from 3rd she will peel your lips back and make your eyes water and GOOOOOOOOO
what the 6 lost in low end tq it surely gained in the upper range.
IMHO i think my 430 gearset is also a big culprit of a few "peel me out of the seat runs"

oooppps i think we hijacked a 7.3 thread, sorry bryan, bill and big K
