First thanks for the info on the auxiliary idle control. My local Ford dealer said it cost $1200 and I found it on ebay for $60-$80. Why so much of a price difference. I am really curious about idle control. Does anyone have one? Second I have an K&N filter and stock air box. Wouls it really benefit me to install the cold air intake kit? And last, I have factory exhaust just that it is a straight pipe. Would it benefit me to go to 4" pipe. Oh and back to the air filter question. The guy who installed the my Banks Power stuff said that the cold air intake don't work because you get the hot air from the engine. I know this is alot of questions for yall but I want to hear your opinions. Thanks.

Sounds about right for the price from ford if you go to www.powerstrokeshop.com they will almost assuredly be cheaper if it's not listed give them a call. Ebay it's more than likely used if you're spending the $$ to buy one then pick up the genuine ford one it'll be a bout a 4.5X5.5X.5" box w/ an lcd display and a couple buttons on it.

Easy answer is yes. The stock airbox on the 94-97 trucks are notorious to leak around the filter seals because of the design of the box and the intense negative pressure generated by the turbo. That same negative pressure over time tends to tear at the cotton filteration inside the filter rendering it a poor filter.

The catalytic converter is a restriction that remains w/ the banks kit. Until you go to bigger injectors you won't gain too much of a decrease in EGT's enough to justify pulling the exhaust off and replacing it. I'm in the same boat and have found 300hp trucks w/ 3.5" (stock) exhaust w/ only the round downpipe & punched cat for exhaust mods.

When I went from the stock air box to a tymar open element intake I noticed a decrease of about 50-75* when moving, I did notice that when stopped it took longer for the egt's to come down. When you're moving there is enough air coming in to get a cold enough air charge that you're gaining power but when you're sitting still or moving very slow the air becomes stagnant under the hood and you do start sucking in some hot air.

EDIT: since I forgot my manners, welcome to the site

1. Without getn into economics... It's just the way the Big 3 do business.

Second I have an K&N filter and stock air box. Wouls it really benefit me to install the cold air intake kit?

2. Yes, Your stock intake is to restrictive. There is a U N I, 2 stage, drop in filter for your truck. PM me if you'd like.

And last, I have factory exhaust just that it is a straight pipe. Would it benefit me to go to 4" pipe.

3. Yes, you arent getting the most out of your Banks stuff with a Stock exhaust.

4. Yes, but back to #2

I know this is alot of questions for yall but I want to hear your opinions. Thanks.

There's been a number of discussions regarding the open element intakes and hot air. In my opinion (and it is only that) when the truck is in normal motion, the temperature differential is not that big a factor. When the truck is at a standstill or moving slowly, you are not needing to control EGT's or needing maximum power, so cooler intake are is not a big deal. I used to have a K&N in the stock box, but I made my own setup using the big Baldwin filter mainly for the better (and reliable) filtration. If you need the AIC operationg manual, it is available over at TDS in the FAQ section. The 3.5" exhaust on the 94-97's is not that restrictive (excluding the downpipe) and the muffler is actually pretty good. I know Dave Murakami is pushing 400 hp with the stock system. Cheers!

Have any of yall had to change injectors. I had to change mine about a year and a half ago and was just wondering if there is some type of additive or treatment to keep them clean.

You don't really need the additives if you keep the oil/filter changed regularly with the correct oil and use good fuel and keep the filters changed there too. Having said that, some people use fuel additives such as Powerservice and Stanadyne (my choice) for some Cetane boost and lubricity addition. Just make sure that any fuel additive you may try does not contain alcohol! Cheers!

The difference in price for the AIC is simple. The one at the dealer is brand new. You buy the whole package and the upcharge, shipping cost, etc. The one on ebay most of the time is brand new too. When the dealers would order work trucks, they would check off "pto provision" and presto, for like 400 bucks, the truck now had a pto which hardly anyone uses and big gay box under the dash. When someone would buy the truck, they would go "what the heck is this big gay box, lets put it on ebay since well never use it". Since it didn't cost them hardly anything to get it (other than the purchase price of the truck on the lot) they have nothing to lose to sell it. $200 or so dollars is a product of supply and demand. And that my friend is why it's on ebay for cheap.

Yes I had to change mine around 155k due to an erratic idle and poor fuel delivery (displayed in very low EGT's) I chose to upgrade them while I had them out for little more than fixing the problems in them. I ended up having some broken internal springs, poppet valve clearances that were @ the end of the tolerances, as well as a couple scored plunger & barrel assemblies. Add that to the fact that I needed new injector 0-rings (oil in fuel problem)

Ive heard that the expected lifespan on the injectors is somewhere between 100-200k depending on a multitude of factors. There are folks running w/ 250k+ on the factory injectors and having no problems but from what I can remember those are the guys who have owned the truck from day 1, meticulously changed oil, fuel filters, and are very selective about where they buy fuel.
