A friend of mine has a 99 F250 Super Duty manual tranny with approx 80,000 miles. The truck idles fine, but when you go down the road, the truck will buck one time, and the SES light will come on. At this time It starts bucking and surging, trying to run, but the more gas you give it, the more it smokes, but it makes it run worse. If you back off, the thing will cut off. Sometimes it will crank back up in a minute, but sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes. It's a hard crank. At this point, it starts to run good for 5 miles or so, then it starts doing it again. Sometimes the SES light stays on, and sometimes it will come on, then go off on Its own.
He took the truck to Auto Zone to have the codes read, and they said it showed no codes, (which it obviously should since the SES light had been on). He replaced the fuel filter about 3 weeks ago, but drove it probably 200 miles since that with no problems. The problem, however, was nonexistant before the fuel filter swap. Anyone have any experience with this problem?? I appreciate it!---Dusty

Dusty-- sounds like a air in suction line problem:dunno-check to see if your fuel line has wet spots on it were it should not---or something floating in the tank--check to see if filter is dry also--thats my 2bits worth-bestof luck with it BC:canukRobertoh:sweet

Garbage floating in the tank is not a bad idea. I have a friend who had to dig out the tank lining from his F-350. It had come off of the fuel tank and was floating around inside and plugging up the intake.

Thanks guys. I'll check that out.. i keep hearing a lot of things about the EBPV and Cam sensor. Any chance these symptoms match that?

Sorry to say this but its a known fact Autozone scanners don't work with our trucks. Get it scanned again with a scanner that works and report the code. If you have a SES then you have a code. I would lean towards the CPS becuase mine had the same symptoms when it went out. It would run for a while then die. Then I would have to wait before it would restart. If you got a code saying its the CPS you'll be lucky as most of the time no code is thrown. :2c Bryan
