I have a 99 SD 7.3 6 spped and limited slip diff. (3.73) have deleloped a bearing noise under power in the drive train. Wheel bearings feel OK and the only thing that looks out of place is some metal on the fill plug on the diff. I had the diff.oil changed at 30K (now at 66K) I tow a 13K 5th wheel. any help?

Dave, how many miles on the truck, clutch etc.? One of the problems with the 6 speed in the '99 is the pilot bearing. I have heard several people tell about the pilot bearing failing and causing damage to the transmission. I myself just went through this, the pilot bearing failed, the input shaft wobbled, broke the clutch plate, wobbled more, destroyed the input shaft and main gear cluster. The OEM pilot bearing just isn't heavy enough for these trucks.

I would strongly recomment taking it to a "GOOD" tranny shop who if familiar with the ZF6 and have it checked out. Make sure the shop knows the ZF6.

About my 99 F350

99' F350 XLT Superduty Supercab, 6 speed with the original clutch, 67K miles on the 7.3 Tubro Diesel (Banks Stinger Kit installed at 11K) I use smaller tires when towing my 30' 5th wheel (235 inplace of the 265) to get the RPM's up to 2,000 @ 67 MPH. Towing we get 11-12 MPG and 18-19 empty. The engine has an oil leak (minor) around the rear, I replaced the O-Rings on the turbo base but didn't help. The chutch pedal release point is low, bleeding helps but not much. I'm going to pull the trany to check the clutch and rear engine seal. I've made long trips (2 to MS to drop the trailer off for 4 months)with this bearing noise but would feel better if it were gone. Am looking for a good clutch kit.

Hope this helps

Dave
