I have a 97 psd with a shifting problem, occasionally it doesn't want to shift out of first gear or it takes awhile to shift or I have to let off the pedal a little to get it to shift? any ideas? thanks lee

check and make sure all your brake lights and turn signals in the back work including the 3rd brake light on the roof and your 4 ways.

that can cause the problem as well as the BOO(brake on/off) switch, brake light switch and the turn signal switch(AKA multi function switch).

i forget but it is the dumbest idea ive ever seen though :dunno

you need a bulb in that blinker that shut the cruise off.that will most likely fix your shifting problem as well.

so is this something that the bulb may look fine but still cause a problem or with the bulb just not work. also it just shut the cruise off one time and I was not able to recreate it by turning the cruise on and trying to get it to shut off again. so Idk what is going on but I hope that trans is not on its way out. to me that seems like the last gear shift change that would be a problem if the trans was going out. wouldn't it be a higher range that was slipping or not making a shift. is there a good troubleshooting guide that would be helpful for this transmission?

bad connection in the bulb socket will cause the same issues.do a quick search and you will see that alot of tranny problems are caused by a bulb.as far as trouble shooting it,take it to a shop and have a scanner put on it to see if you have any trouble codes for the tranny.but some of those codes will come up because of a bulb.you may need to adjust or replace the range sensor on the side of the tranny.it tells the pcm what gear you are in.that stupid switch on the master cylinder(the one that burns f150s and broncos but not the f250,350 and 450s) will also screw with the tranny.on the passengers side of the tranny there is a shield held on by 2 bolts.there is a connector behind it.unplug itg and see if there is tranny fluid, oil or water in it.that will mess with the tranny as well.
