theres 2 lines on the drivers side engine compartment they look like flex lines the connect the steel line thru a cross member. on each end of the flex line theres a strange look connector. could it be a bad O ring? are these lines high pressure lines? would a place like napa, or caps have these replacement lines or is it a dealer item? could i just use rubber lines and hose clamps? thanx for the help

yes, they leak and suck air

those are the infamous fuel disconnects. they are known to leak.
if you have a haynes manual, there are good pictures of the fittings in there.

to take them appart, they use the automotive a/c and fuel disconnect tools-

are pictures of the kinds of tools.

the hard line has a barb on it about 1/2 inch back. the fitting has aa pair of o-rings inside to seal the end of the tube.

the fitting has either spring fingers of a radial spring to lock the hard line into the fitting at the barb.

the tool expands either the spring or the fingers to let the barb pass through.

i tried finding a pic of the fitting online, but this fuel filter replacement is >similar< http://www.fordf150.net/howto/fuelfilter.php in how the fitting look and behave.

i guess you could pull the flex lines and replace with fuel hose, make sure its diesel rated.

ok of the 2 lines it is the smaller diameter one. is this the return line? if the new line is more than 15 bucks i'm just going to use rubber line with some heat shield over it. there is one thing that is kind of werid the lines coming from the tank side are stainless but the line going up the engine to the pump is plain steel. and since i in the north east its all rotted and krusty. i hope ford has a better design on their newer trucks

ok i guess the SS flex line is a dealer item. so i used a rubber line with heat shield tape for a temp fix. the hard line going up the front of the motor is rotted and brittle so i'm going to replace that as well. so this thread isn't an emergency any more thanx for the info
