My Dad just called me with a problem with his F350. Sounds like CPS to me but he also mentioned that the truck was low on oil (2quarts don't ask).

Do 7.3's have a low oil sensor that will cause the puter to shut down the truck?

I'm going to help him out after work today. I do have a code reader so I'm hoping that will give me the answer. I'm pretty sure it's CPS from how he said it's acting but just figured I'd cover all my bases B4 I get to it.

Thanks for any help.

Sort of, its the HPOP (high pressure oil pump) The injectors require oil pressure to fire. If you are low on oil you might not be firing the injectors.

Thanks guys.

One other thing. I thought I read somewhere that there is a new replacement CPS on the market that no longer has these issues. Is this a myth or what?

Myth......................The international guys know the part number by heart from what I've read. They says enough in itself.

and the reason I said HPOP is this. If he was 5 quarts low would he tell you that, or would he make it sound better and say 2? I'm not sure how low you have to get to starve the HPOP but maybe he did?

Well, I asked about my poor running truck, and was told to check oil. I was 7qts low! It ran very bad. Stumbling, didn't want to go, felt like the truck was towing when it was not.

Runs good now:thumbs

Code reader said CPS. 45 minutes later, problem solved. The second Alt. through me for a loop at first. It's a lot easier without that thing in the way. What a pain. Litterally, my right hand and forearm took a beating.
