My gf got me a 5" exhaust from rpmoutlet for xmas, out of stock 4" kits, upgrade for same price. It finally arrives and the instructions say "AUTOMATIC ONLY". It is a Flo-pro system, so I call them, and they tell me they dont make systems for manual trucks because there isn't enough room for a 4" downpipe, and when they flow tested the competitors downpipe the flow wasn't good enough to warrant them making the jig to "smash the piss out of a 4" pipe for the 1 in 50 trucks with manual trannys". :cussing: :dunno

My questions are:
Is the smashed 4" downpipe any better than the stock one?
How hard would it be to make the 4" downpipe that came with the kit work?
What would Jesus do.....or any of you guys for that matter?

thanks,
Dug

It should work fine. No? The bellhousing on the automatics is roughly the same size as the standard. Where are the clearance problems or did they say?

He said the clearance issues were on the bellhousing where the pivot is mounted. Im gonna have to get it up in the air and look at it to see, if i can make it work...I have a torch and a Ford fine adjustment tool ( BIG F@#%KIN HAMMER).

I've made headers fit that way before! It sounds like it's nothing a little heat and a hammer can't fix! Is the clutch assembly/fork not on the drivers side? (pivot?)

IMO, you'll find that it'll work, but I'm usually ready to use the BFH at a moments notice...

Mine transitions halfway down the downpipe to 4". It does touch the bellhousing but I don't think it poses a problem.

My 4" MBRP downpipe barely touches the starter ear on the bellhousing of the tranny. It's nothing that a slight ding with a BFH would solve but I'm too lazy to pull the DP, besides I don't hear any rattle.

When I posted this elsewhere, Dave Meheen from DPP posted that there's only one exhaust system that's specifically bent for the ZF6. It's sold by Banks, all the other systems are for both manual and auto trannies.

i've got the same exhaust on my 05 with a 6spd it was really hard and had to get the muffler shop to tweak the pipe a little but it fits its just real snug. the only part that was hitting was where the next pipe was to be connected it didnt quite have the right angle on it hence the tweaking but once it was all done its good and sounds good too.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but if you're heating the pipes to tweak them becareful if it's stainless steel. You can easily "de-stainless" the stainless with heat.
