Hello everyone, friends 2002 E350 diesel van has little power and check engine light is on. Can he pull codes off the van by himself?

He has 260K, stock injectors, stock turbo. I think he may have a chip.

Any help in pulling the codes off himself would be helpful.

Thanks
Scott

can't do it.
'96 & on requires a manufacturer-specific OBD-II scan tool.
Global ones (Harbor Freight cheapies and AZ specials) ain't gunna git it.

no, the old way of pulling diagnostic codes via key sequence and the likes of an analog vom dont work on these trucks.

you need a computer with with OBD software.

the ones at autozone and the cheap $50 code readers don't know the extended OBD ranges.

Just a SWAG but when you say... Has Little Power ?

Could be.. an over-boost has caused the PCM to go to de-fuel mode. That cuts fuel pressure, which cuts power

Have him disconnect [both] battery cables for 20-30 minutes. Doing that, will re-set the PCM... power should/could return.

It's worth a shot.

But to get a Good Scan, yul need to do what dp & JL said... fer shur.
