2000 F250 4x4 electric shift problem

I am having trouble getting my electric shift to work. It doesn't do anything when I try to engage the shift switch. I have tested the motor and it works fine when power is put to it, so that is not the problem. I need to know what to look for, or at, to solve this problem.

I should add that the electric shift motor was removed a number of years ago because it stuck in low range and the transfer case was shifted manually to the 2 high position.
