2000 F-350 CC LB DW

One of my old RV pulling buddy has a 2000 F-350 with a 7.3 P/S Auto and 4.10 rear end. It has 104,900 miles on it.
He is hearing a noise when the truck is parked and in park sating still or in neutral. The noise gets louder as he brings the rpm up. Someone told him it is coming from the lower part of the motor. With only a 105000 miles on it I would think TC or Turbo could be making the noise.
Any one have any ideals on this. He and wife are full timers, kinda like Robert, so they need a good running truck.

Can you ask him to describe the noise in more detail. A rattle, cackle.....

I'm just guesiing but see if he can hear the noise coming from the torque converter. I also recall some 2000 models having the dreaded diode tranny but not sure if the noise would be related.

He says it sounds more like a cackle.. to him. It has been doing it for over a year now going back and forth to CO. He lives in LA. and is home for the winter and it is getting louder he thinks. I told him he just needs to spend a day or two camped out at Lead Hill Campground while Brian at BTS works on it.

Cackle is quite common in these engines from what I have learned the past 2 years. Most cackle seems to come from air that sneaks in the fuel system. Mine also would get louder in the winter until the engine warmed up to normal operating temp. Doing the in tank mod and the pre-pump filter (aka Hutch & Harpoon mods) helped reduce engine cackle considerably. Many folks have reduced cackle by installing a regulated fuel return and/or better injectors. Here are some links to discussions/solutions on this subject:
