I'm new to the forum and never had a diesel but am looking into a 1997 f-350 with a 7.3 it has 205,000 on it and some 35 inch tires it looks real nice and he wants $7800 is that a good price or not really and would anyone have any idea what kinda mileage it would get cause I'm tryin to get rid of a 96 f150 that only gets about 13 to 14 so would it beat that or not really any help is greatly appreciated.

hello and welcome opossum. :D

the price sounds reasonable to me, if everything is in good condition and runs and works well.

as far as your MPG, i don't know, as i have an '04

there are plenty of owners here with that model, that will chime is soon.

hang in there, and again, welcome to SDD

Low retail value on that truck would be around $8500 if it is in good shape so I would say $7800 is a decent deal. This really depends on what kind of shape it is in.

The 7.3 will beat the 13 to 14 but only by a few and with the higher price of Diesel over gas the total cost per mile might be close to the same. Normally on an average the 7.3 will get 16mpg with some guys reporting as much as 20mpg.

By the way :welcome2 to the site..

Hey Possum,
A Big ol' TEXAS Welcome to ya! I have a 95 F-350 Crew Cab (CC) 2WD, it has 320,000 miles on it, stock sized tires and when I keep the RPM's around 1900-1950 I can get 20 - 21mpg. I realize that the truck you are looking at is set up different, but just throwing in my comments.

I think Crumm is on the right track w/ the efficiency. But right now w/ the winter blend fuel in I wish I was getting 14..... lol.

Even if the cost per mile came out to the same as the F150, wouldnt you rather be cruisin in a 1 ton diesel:cool:

There is sooooooooooooo much you can do to these trucks. You can make better economy, more power, and insane power if you want.

Ask santa fer the truck and dont look back:open
