This may sound like a stupid question, but my son has a 1995 F-150 XL reg cab swb 4.9L I-6 with the 5 speed Mazda transmission and has a bit over 200,000 miles on it. He told me tonight that he thinks it's acting a little strange (he didn't elaborate). He mentioned getting the fluid checked, and I told him I didn't know how often the fluid needed changing (if at all), since that some of the newer ones (manual) possibly never need changing. I told him to check the owners manual for information. Any thoughts???:confused: :confused:

Hi Wayne;

As a rule, when any of my vehicles reach 100,000 miles I change all fluids. This applies also when I purchase a used vehicle, I change all fluids to make sure that everything is fresh.

Max, that's good advice. He's had this truck for 10 years and is very attached to it. He really needs a new one, but this one is still very dependable although really starting to show its age. He only lives about 5 minutes from his job, so he's not putting too many miles on it.

Wayne, when I had mine... it was notorious for eating shift forks, not too hard to fix or very expensive. but it would require the Box to be dropped. Also when I did mine once upon a long time ago I opted to put in Mobile 1 straight 30 w instead of the ATF they were using, after doing this I did not lose any more shift forks...
