Reasons to live in Calif.

1. Winters are mild.
2. Ocean is close.
3. Mountains are close.
4. Desert is close.
5. Wages are normally higher than midwest.

Reasons not to live in Calif.

That was one of the things I did not like about Ca, that and about 33,871,648 other reasons.

Good reasons;
1993 idi turbo diesel F350 dually, in Oregon was $31 per year. In Calif. $290 per year. 2006 F350 PSD in Oregon $168 for four years. In Calif. it is your first born....:doh:

That is because everything is more expensive, i.e. fuel, houses, taxes.

Costs $80 a year to register the F350 here in Denton Co, Texas

yep.. I remember when we purchased our ranch in Oregon, we thought it was a great price, but locals thought it was way to high. They did not like Kalifornians coming in with money and causing the local property to go up in price. The average house in our area is $300,000. In and around SF it is $600,000. Places in MN. and Ok. are around $58,000. We bought 100 acres in Oregon for the same price as one acre here in Redding. Since we are both retired, and can go anywhere, our stay here in California might be getting shorter. Only problem is that at our ages, we might not do well in the cold climates in the winter. Cold to us is anything lower then +32. My wife is thin, and she dresses like an eskimo now.

It is much higher than 600,000. Try more like $900,000.

Dave

Inflation... by the time I submit the reply, it will probably be higher...I know Santa Barbara is the highest area in California, but I could not even guess what the average house (mansion) cost is there. I once saw a listing for a $52,000,000 house there. That is more than what Bill Gates paid for his house.
I think his was ONLY $48,000,000.
There are many very nice midwest homes in the $200,000 range that can be purchased with only half of what most Californians can sell their houses for. So many retired Californians are selling out and moving to the midwest, paying cash for a house, with a couple hundred thousand left in the bank.
