    Auxillary Tank Install

Update -- got my install kit..it ain't gonna fit. I can take the check valve off the kit, what do you guys think about just drilling and tapping the tank, and installing it there?

Mixing bio and regular diesel fuels.

rray is right....Although, my personal experience was that I didn't have any gunk in my tanks, apparently. I never did plug a filter. :dunno But, like I said, better safe than stranded.

Mixing bio and regular diesel fuels.

Mix 'em. They mix well in any percentage. If you run it near full strength, you might want to bring along a spare fuel filter, just in case. You'll probably not need it, but better to be prepared than stranded...

    replacement tires: questions!

I went with Firestone Transforce HT (highway). They are upgrades to the old Steeltex tires, I've alway had good luck with. The ones I've got now are at 65K, but I've got one that's running just a little thin. ALL tires do better if you rotate them OFTEN. I had a ex-tire-shop-owner tell me he...

    Seperation?

No -- bio will not separate, no matter what the percentage. Now, I bet if you left it undisturbed 50/50 for YEARS, you might see some separation, but under normal everyday circumstances, you won't have any separation. I think CHP had a spreadsheet that listed the lubricating properties of...

    My first Alt fuel post

Biodiesel would require no mods to your truck. WVO does. If the 5 gallons a week is your only source of oil, I'd do biodiesel. With WVO, you need to dedicate a tank to it, so the little bit of use you get out of it wouldn't get much use. If you make biodiesel, you can fill up with that, save...

    Auxillary Tank Install

Richard -- that's what I was thinking about, but the one for ford's won't fit our filler necks (because of the extra hose in the middle of ours) Here's one of the reviews that made me question it for my truck: 93Turbo -- Yes, it'll be in the bed. I wanted it to gravity feed to my front stock...

    Auxillary Tank Install

Fixing to order me an auxillary fuel tank. I was going to order the install kit that comes with it, but I don't think it's going to work. It's made for the newer trucks that have a single fuel filler hose, where ours has the vent running inside the filler neck. What options do I have to...

    My new Bio Diesel setup

He is...see the fourth picture in the first post... I think everyone would plead with you to NOT do that...the methanol vapors will explode...

    Collection process,what do u use?

My preference is: 1. Restaurant puts oil back in cubies. Load in back of truck. No pumping, quick & easy. 2. Hand-crank harbor freight pump from barrel at restaurant to empty cubies. I tried pumping into a barrel in the back of the truck once, but all that meant was I had to pump it...

    My svo kit coming

Yes, I'm running B100 in veg tank. I thought it would heat up a little faster, but didn't know it'd make that big of a difference. My FPHE is before the pollack, as I plan to mainly run regular diesel when get going. I couldn't spring for the biodiesel resistant fuel hose, so I got the...

    My svo kit coming

Got my gauges installed last night. Interesting results on the drive to work this morning. When I first started, I switch to my heated side, (coolant was still cold) and fuel temp got up to 160. So, I'm sure my Vegtherm is working. After getting out on the highway, coolant comes up to temp...

    My svo kit coming

You got any pics of your gauge sending units installed in the hoses? I'm thinking of just a T, but would have to put the unit in one of the sides because of length...

    My svo kit coming

What do you think about this for filtering/dewatering? I've got a propane turkey cooker...what if I put a 5 gallon jug of oil on that, got it up to temp (215?), and poured that through my bed-sheet filter. That'd take care of any water in it, plus, the additional heat would help the filtering...

    My svo kit coming

Good! Any new places I get will be keeping the oil back into the cubies, then I can pick up. Originally, I had my first two places equipped with barrels, but it's an event to go pick up. With cubies, they can call and say they've got oil ready, I pick it up, even when I'm not in my grungy...

    Using new veggie oil

Where are you guys finding new virgin oil for that cheap? Around here, a 35 pound jug will cost you 25 - 30 bucks depending on type. I've not experimented without heating the oil. I fear that injector nozzles would begin to be coked because of the high viscosity (and therefore more unburnt...

    My svo kit coming

I found out it's a 6 mm bolt. Went to the ford dealer and asked for two...they didn't have any, but said they had some nuts that would fit....gave them to me for free and said "just come back when you need REAL parts!" I made a trip with our 5th wheel this weekend, just ran my rear tank on...

    My svo kit coming

I got just about done tonight. Everything is in, but I plan to add heat-protection around the hoses next to the exhaust manifold. Started right up on regular diesel -- didn't even sputter. I don't have any filtered oil yet, so I haven't gotten a chance to try that out, but at least half of...

    My svo kit coming

I started working on installing my kit yesterday. So far, I've got the hotfox mounted, the filters and FPHE installed, and hoses ran from the veg tank to the filter. I've also started running new lines from the diesel tank to it's filter. I decided to mount my filters and stuff on the...

    biodiesel ?

Yes, it's quite a lot. You can probably get away with 20%, but the more methanol you have, the easier it is to get it right the first time. Last time I bought methanol, and it's been a while, it was about $3 a gallon...that put's the finished product around $.75 a gallon. You can reclaim...

    My svo kit coming

I said rubber, but meant what you said :sly I got four plastic elbows that I'm assuming go with the FPHE...any thoughts on the use of plastic there? Pics helped a lot....I'm trying to gather the hose & stuff tomorrow so I'll be ready Friday night....

    biodiesel ?

No, it doesn't. You do need to have the oil heated to about 130 though. When you mix the lye with the methanol,it will create heat, so it will be warm when you add it to the oil.
  24. bbressler

    biodiesel ?

You mix the lye with methanol first, then you add that mixture to the oil. It will take some good shaking, and usually a bit of time for it to dissolve (maybe 10 minutes if you're doing test batches.) Use 25% methanol by volume of oil...so if you use 1 liter oil, use 1/4 liter methanol.

    My svo kit coming

I just got the rest of my stuff today...but I seem to be missing a few small parts....like the coolant T's, the brass fuel & coolant connectors for the filters, etc. I had planned on getting bigger T's to run 1/2 coolant hose, so that's not a big deal. I'm planning on installing mine this...
