    I believe both the transmission and transfer case are "self contained" and there should not be a common oil system between the two. If there is at leak at the joint, it would be a "seal" not a gasket leak......

    Diesel fuel Leakage

    If there is fuel making it into the coolant, he could have an issue with the injector cups. I know someone who kept having coolant overflow, but it smelled like diesel. Found out he had a bad injector cup that was allowing fuel into the cooling system.
