6.0L - issues, solution, and cost

32k on mine and the only problem I have is a dead limited joke, er slip rear end... otherwise, runs great. Congrats as well on the new ride! Do yourself a favor and get a hold of Blackstone labs or the like and get an oil sample analysis taken on your first oil change, which, I'd probably do...

    Fuel economy upgrades

Cat delete is only worth sound and heat... I didn't see squat with mine. about the only way to gain mpg is stay under 10 psi of boost. Not always practical or even fun, but in that mode of operation I get 18 mpg anywhere from 50 mph to 75-80 mph.

    ATF as additive in 6.0??

I tried it and didn't really notice any difference... I imagine over a period of time depending on how heavy you mix it, it might soot things up a bit.

    straight pipe

yeah, it should smoke more... Remember, they have all those soot traps and all the other garbage on there to take that stuff out... I just want to see what it looks like when it decides to go into regen! Detroit went back to "old school" power generation techniques when the 2007 laws came...

Using heating oil as fuel for the truck, damage?

Yeah it's amazing how all of that low tech diesel technology running on that nasty old fuel has survived 50-75 years without major headaches... Kinda makes you wonder if we're just wasting our time? :nutkick: To hear Ozone Al Gore talk about it, it should have grenaded the world 100 years...

Teapot whistle, Now I've had it

Well... we'll see how adding another 14% of displacement bares on the rest of the systems... transmission will be my curiosity. I haven't seen a dodge yet with a good tranny. Good luck though, I can appreciate your position

    stolen truck

You both have two very good points. Not leaving anything worth stealing is probably the most obvious, but most overlooked item of them all. It's just a shame though, no matter how you look at it...

What I meant was if you know you're going to be needing it, lock them in before you leave the hard road... If you're trying to off road in 2wd you need more help than we can provide here! :tounge

Jesus... remind me never to shake your hand if I ever meet you.. I can get the filter housing by hand, but the drain plug would be a bit of a grunt... unless you use your teeth! :roflmao

    help me!!

A little forethought eliminates 90% of the need for engagement in the first place. Actually the main reason I did it was for moving trailers around, hit the low side and you barely even need the go pedal to maneuver. Is there a fairly reasonable way to convert the manual hub axle to the...

    help me!!

for that to be locked in, you'd have to have two systems boned up, or the cab switch is screwed up... the hubs engage with vaccum, and the transfer case has the motor... No offense, but I'll stick with my pull lever, and quarter turn manual hubs... it only screws up if I do...

    stolen truck

One of the 5 pound super halon extinguisher on a solenoid venting into the cab would stop them... Course... they'd still be there when you got back, and with the lettuce and the heat, you'd have a regular greasy hamburger waiting for you! LOL...

Man Sorry to hear about your baby... Give it a few more years, it's becoming a battle of the haves vs the have nots. With our current load of garbage in office right now pushing for amnesty, I think it's about time to start playing cowboys and mexicans... :guns: in 10 years it's probably...

    6.0 Straight Pipe Video

Has anybody tried the Mobil 1 5w-40 oil yet? It's about 6 something a quart up here, so I'm looking at $100 in just oil.. I run it in everything else I have, but this is a bit steep, compaired to $60 in Rotella...

    Trans Slip

Sounds like you have some junk floating around in the tranny and one of the solenoids is sticking. It's not allowing the clutch pack to lock down properly. I'd get that looked at pronto before you glaze a clutch and have real problems.

Please tell me you're not serious... one oops and you just flushed $2100... Besides that, there are multiple holes, you think you'll be able to keep the bit square and not introduce any new angles in hardened steel?

Want to purchase a 2004 SD "Need Advise"

As much as I hate to say it... I don't think I'd buy this truck... granted the repair history looks to me like a dealer that has a lousy repair dept. The early model trucks did have their quirks. I'd maybe look for an '05. With it having 60k miles on it, it's still covered for most of the motor...
