    Could be the connections but since you are getting low voltage on both sides I would lean towards GPR. Check voltage on both big GPR terminals when the glow plugs are on and see what the voltage drop is.

    Tell him to buy the biggest baddest alternator he can get his hands on. I went through two stock type ones plowing before I dropped some coin on a big one and it works much better. Plows put a serious drain on the charging system.

    Isn't filter media technology different than the actual filter itself? I doubt the Ford filter is the same dimensions as the one in the M1 even though the filter material is made with the same technology.
