    Exhaust upgrade, Cat ?

    If you simply add a hollowed out cat you create turbulence in the cat chamber which will impede the proper flow of exhaust gases. I gutted the kitty, cut two 4" holes in both sides of the cat and welded a 4" straight-thru pipe in. But that's only because I live in the USSNJ.

    The Ford "Master Tech" told me that the reason I don't have steering returnability as I am used to in other vehicles is due to the stabilizer. What a wing nut!

    Not sure I understan. If the Hellwig is that much better...and I'm assuming it's better than both what's on the truck now and the one that is on the F250/350, why not go with the Hellwig?

    Is the Hellwig sway bar sold at Summit and JCW the same as the 30mm OEM bar off the F250/350? Would any F250/350 bar be a match for my '04 X? If they're not the same, how different? Is the aftermarket better than the OEM F250/350?

    Steering box adjustment

    Let's assume that the worm gear adjustment on the steering box is completely screwed up. How it got that way...I'll never tell. What's the procedure for proper adjustment, and is there some kind of baseline (i.e. adjusting screw all the way out?) that is used to begin the adjusting procedure?

    When I had my '06 F250 I heard this at all cold start-ups. Sounded like a jet landing, or taking off. Drove the wife absolutely crazy. At the time, no cat and straight piped. Haven't gotten to the exhaust mod on the Excursion just yet. Exhaust sounds deader than a door nail.

    I agree. On really cold days here in the Northeast, I run the truck in T/H to asssist the engine in getting up to operating temperature. Once there, I turn it off. No problems.

    WZ...Weighing in didn't mean a reference to your r-rods. Should the engine be running to properly adjust the worm gear on the steering box?

    Just my luck. Would anyone happen to know whether or not the '04s have a worm gear that can be adjusted on my steering box. I'm too lazy to risk taking out the air box and piping only to find out that I won't be able to adjust it anyway.

    Being as I got my "start" on a GM 6.5TD, it was pretty cool to see the last issue include an article on the 6.2. I like the mag. Certainly not a Car and Driver or Road & Track, but they're still young.

    Do you have a rear anti-sway bar. My '04 doesn't have one although I've heard of some that do.
