The BONE was supposed to be the wonder jet that was going to replace the BUFF (B-52). It didn't happen. Even today, 45 years after the last B-52 was built, it carries a wider variety of munitions, carries them further, and gets off the ground on its mission with more reliability than either the B-1 or B-2, And those are undisputed, documented facts after Kosovo, Afganistan and two rounds in Iraq.
