Synthetics will handle more heat, but in my case, with not doing any real towing and never having the trans temps get any where near 200*, the cost of the synthetic doesn't make sense.
The synthetics are $7 or more per QUART. I can get the conventional Mercon for $7 a GALLON.

I have a gauge on the way. I plan to monitor temps for a little while before doing the fluid change, although I'm sure it will be a little cooler now than it would be in the summer.
Kind of what I'm thinking, but being cheap is also motivating me. Mobil 1 (which is in the trans now) is $7 a quart and Advanced Auto has the Valvoline Mercon fluid for .95 a quart :sly
I just don't want to be penny wise but pound foolish.
I have just read many old threads on trans fluid, some from over two years ago.
I'll outline where I'm at and take your suggestions. My 1999 F-350 has 130,000 on it. The transmission has 80,000 on it. I think when the new trans was put in the mechanic used Mobil 1. I have had the...
Me, too...
I have had my truck since March of 1999. I have never seen a cruise control light. I find it hard to believe the bulb would have burned out in the several months the truck was owned prior to me buying it.
You'll find them in Viton here, almost at the bottom of the page;
Dino Fuel Alternatives: <?php if($topsection != "") print $topsection . ", "; print $sectionname?>
I wish I could find the O-rings that come with the fuel filters in Viton.
It appears fine with just the slightest of play where the two plastic pieces mate. I can't see how I would make the connection any tighter.
I also cannot see where any bushings are missing.
I guess I'll try and run it by my mechanic next week :dunno
I guess I suck at doing searches, because both here and on another forum I cannot find any similiar topics to my problem.
The gear selector lever for my auto tranny (transmission was replaced a little less than 80K miles ago) is real sloppy. There is a wide range of movement in the lever...
Depends on what type of return you are looking for on your investment. A lot like Premium gasoline compared to the low octane rating stuff. The cost of the higher octane gasoline just doesn't make sense, as there is not enough of an increase in mileage.
Few people report noticable mileage...
